I recently learned how to make a Faux Shutter Card and they are sooo easy!!! I might just be a little obsessed with this design. The first one is just super simple; no embellishments needed.
CARD RECIPE
- Cut Garden Green card base at 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, then scored at 4 1/4″. Cut 4 strips 1/4″ x at least 4″.
- Cut 2nd layer in Basic White card stock at 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″. Glue to card front.
- Cut 3rd layer in Basic White card stock cut at 5 1/4″ x 4″…do not glue to card front yet!!! Now, this is where the fun begins!!!
- Cut a 2 1/4″ square using the Stylish Shapes Dies, stamp a sentiment and glue it in the middle of the 3rd layer piece. Now, start with right strip and glue along top right of sentiment square (it will be too long but we will take care of that in a minute. Now continue gluing the strips around the sentiment layer butting each end up to the previous strip. When finished, turn layer over and trim off excess with scissors or trimmer.
- I used the retiring Delightfully Eclectic Designer Series Paper (a whopping 48 sheets of 12″ x 12″ double-sided paper for just $15). I cut two strip 2 1/2″ wide by about 6″ long. Lay one corner in a corner made by your strips and glue down. Turn layer over and trim off excess. Now, move to the next section, turn the paper over (double-sided, remember), tuck squared corner into next corner made by strips, glue down and trim. Now do the same with the second strip of Designer Series Paper. If your paper is not double-sided, just use two coordinating prints.
- Cut a piece of Basic White at 5 1/4″ x 4″, stamp a sentiment if desired and glue to inside of card base. cut a 1/4″ x 4″ strip of Designer Series Paper and glue to the bottom of inside layer…just for fun!
I have a Christmas Card Club that I email a Christmas Card tutorial to every month. This month I decided to make a Christmas card using leftover wrapping paper instead of Designer Series Paper. You know, those scraps that you just throw away when you finish wrapping because they are too small to wrap a gift with??? This year I saved some of those with these cards in mind. Well, instead of a tutorial for one card this month, they got THREE cards!!! Plus I told them to watch my blog for CARD #4! And I have to say, I am not out of ideas yet…
The layout for the card is the same as above but I used Cherry Cobbler cardstock as my base card and Shaded Spruce cardstock for layer 2 and the strips. My wrapping paper is double-sided…yay!!! I used a sentiment from the retired Rocking Horse stamp set (love it!) and the poinsettia is from the retired Merriest Moments stamp set. I embellished the card with Linen Thread and Neutrals Adhesive-Backed Sequins! What do you think??? Just imagine making cards using this layout to match all of your wrapped gifts…Christmas, birthday, housewarming, hostess, just because!!! You will surely be the clever one!
Thank you for stopping by today. I hope I have encouraged you to think outside the box!
