Last weekend I was playing with an old stamp set that has remained a favorite because of its simple elegance. Though I have made many cards with this set over the years, I didn’t realize one of the sentiments is perfect for a sympathy card. I needed some sympathy cards so decided to make three of them.
The inside sentiment says, “How lucky I am to have known someone who was so hard to say goodbye to.” WOW! That is a good one!!!
On the card above, I stamped the images tone-on-tone in Poppy Parade all over the Poppy Parade cardstock layer. Since the stamp set is long ago retired, I wanted to remake this card in mostly current Stampin’ Up! products.
How did I do? Instead of tone-on-tone stamping, I embossed the Pumpkin Pie layer with the Layered Florals 3D Embossing Folder. Instead of a butterfly, I stamped and cut out one of the flowers to pop-up on Dimensionals.
The ribbon is a retired black Glittered Organdy ribbon that was too perfect not to use. I also added Brushed Brass Butterflies that are current in the upcoming 2024-2025 Stampin’ Up! Catalog. These are truly the perfect embellishment because they are beautiful and flat so they go through the mail easily without extra expense. I am not sure you can see it in the picture but I glittered up the flower centers with Wink of Stella…oh so pretty in person. This card was a little more labor intensive than the red one above because I colored all the flowers with Stampin’ Blends.
Unfortunately, the inside sentiment is from the Circle Sayings stamp set and I believe it recently sold out:(
CARD RECIPE
- Cut Basic Black card base at 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, then scored at 4 1/4″.
- Cut 2nd layer in Basic White card stock at 5 1/4″ x 4″.
- Cut 3rd layer in Pumpkin Pie card stock cut at 5″ x 3 3/4″, run this layer through machine using the Layered Florals 3D Embossing Folder.
- Glue Pumpkin Pie layer to Basic White layer but don’t add to card front yet.
- Cut two pieces of Basic White cardstock to 2″ x 3 1/4″. Stamp flowers in Memento Tuxedo Black ink and color with Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blends and Light Daffodil Delight for the flower centers. Stamp leaves in Granny Apple Green. I made a mask of the flower using Masking Paper to cover the flowers when I was stamping the leaves. Stamp another flower and set of leaves to cut out.
- Cut two pieces of Basic Black cardstock to 2 1/8″ x 3 3/8″. Adhere stamped white layers to the black layers. Glue one of the pieces sideways across the embossed Pumpkin Pie layer. Wrap ribbon across the card front and adhere in the back. Glue card front to card base.
- Now attach the other stamped layer to card front in a portrait position with Dimensionals.
- Stamp sentiment on 3/4″ x 3 1/2″ strip of Basic White. Attach using two Dimensionals on the left hand side and glue on the right hand side.
- Attach cut out flower using Dimensionals and glue leaves into place.
- Cut 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of Basic White for inside. Stamp sentiment and another flower using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Stamp leaves using Granny Apple Green ink. Color the flower using Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends. Adhere this layer to the inside of the card.
- Add Brushed Brass Butterflies to card front.
- For a little added pizzazz, stamp and color the flower on the envelope front or flap.
