Today’s card was so much fun to make and I love the way it turned out! I saw a post by Jackie Bolhuis at Klompen Stampers where she made Pinwheel Cards and I thought, how fun is that! I remember making them year ago but had long forgotten them. So, I moved the mess out of the way and started a new project. Do you clean up your messes first and then create or move the mess aside and craft while the thought is fresh??? I do both but usually it is move aside and create!!!
For this card I chose a base color I have not used a lot of, Bubble Bath. I chose it because of the colors in the (retiring) Delightfully Eclectic Designer Series Paper I wanted to use. I often choose my Designer Series Paper first and then allow the colors to pick my card stock. Kinda like getting dressed for me in the morning…I pick my shoes and then the clothes that will go with my shoes! Besides Delightfully Eclectic Designer Series Paper, I chose Garden Green and Berry Burst card stock to make the Pinwheels.
I tried mounting the pinwheel on the base card but it just seemed to need something so I embossed a slightly smaller piece of Bubble Bath card stock with the Distressed Tile 3D Embossing Folder…voila! I added a Happy Birthday greeting with the retired Circle Sayings stamp set and cut out with the also retiring Double Oval Punch.
Inside I stamped my favorite birthday card sentiment (I am chronically late) from the (retiring) Something Fancy stamp set. I am beginning to wonder if I used any current products on this card. That’s what happens when two catalogs are retiring and one is not yet launched. However, the card design and sizes are all the same…just use what you have and it will be perfect! This is the perfect project to use up some of your scraps!
CARD RECIPE
- Cut Bubble Bath card base at 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, then scored at 4 1/4″.
- Cut Bubble Bath layer 5 1/4″ x 4″ and emboss with the Distressed Tile 3D Embossing Folder. Glue to card base.
- Pinwheel base: Cut (2) in Garden Green at 2 5/8″ x 2 5/8″
- Pinwheel pieces: Cut (4) in the Designer Series Paper at 1 1/4″ x 1 1/4″ and (4) in the Berry Burst
- Adhere two Pinwheel Base squares together do you end up with 8 points.
- Now, start at the top point and adhere just the right hand side of square to the Pinwheel Base. Continue around the base clockwise fully adhere each addition square to the base as shown in pictures above. The last square you will tuck under the first square (thus why you only adhered on one side). Glue left side of first square…Pinwheel complete! Now, that was easy, right???
- Adhere Pinwheel to card base with Dimensionals.
- I stamped the Happy Birthday greeting in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and cut out with the Double Oval Punch.
- I had some long retired sparkly gems in my stash that went perfect with this card so used one in the middle of the Pinwheel and 3 others scattered about the card front.
- Cut a piece of Basic White at 5 1/4″ x 4″, stamp a sentiment if desired and glue to inside of card base. cut a 5/8″ x 4″ strip of Designer Series Paper and glue to the bottom of inside layer…just for fun!
