Have you ever tried Yerba Mate? The first time I tried it I was like, “YUCK! Are you kidding me? People actually drink this for pleasure???” Well, I should tell you I am not a coffee drinker either! After first being introduced to Yerba Mate`, it was probably two years before I tried it again and this time for the health benefits. Within a month, I learned to LOVE it and look forward to starting every day with one or two cups! One interesting fact about Yerba Mate` is that it alkalizes the body whereas coffee makes the body acidic. My doctor asked me to water down my Yerba Mate` because my body was becoming too alkaline! People don’t usually have that problem!
My favorite place to purchase my Yerba Mate` is online at EcoTeas! They have a quality product for a great price. And I usually purchase 10 pounds at a time.
I am super picky about how to make my Yerba Mate` every morning. I told my daughter I needed to show her how I do it in case she has to make it for me when I am an old woman. She just laughed! I have a few favorite mugs like the one above and I almost always make my Yerba Mate` in a French Press. However, I do have a tea infuser I use when traveling as the glass French Press is kinda fragile.
My husband likes his tea a little stronger than I do so I put 1/4 cup loose leaf Yerba Mate` in the French Press and add a little cold water to wet the tea leaves. Then I heat water in a tea kettle or hot pot to 170 degrees (F) and pour into the French Press. I let it set for about 5 minutes then pour into mugs. I add one teaspoon Tropical Traditions Organic Raw Canadian Honey (I told you I am picky) and a sprinkle of cayenne pepper to mine. I add one ice cube to mine to make it just the right temperature for me to drink (I never did get the hang of drinking really hot beverages). At this point, I fill the French Press with hot water from the tea kettle to be ready for my second cup!
I hope you’ll give it a try and I hope you will subscribe to my blog via email so you know each and every time I post! I am looking forward to getting better acquainted with you:)
