So what do I mean by Card Ministry? I am talking about YOU by yourself sitting at your kitchen table making cards to send to bless others! OR how about you and a couple friends getting together once a week to make cards for a nursing home, hospice or assisted living facility.
I have a friend who was absent from her church for six months while her husband was dying. When she returned, her fellow members wanted to know where she had been. During the time she was gone she didn’t receive any cards, letters or phone calls from her fellow church members. In talking with her pastor’s wife, the idea was born for her to make and send cards to those missing members each week! This Card Ministry blesses those receiving the cards AND my friend who makes and sends them.
Today I want to show you a couple of Valentine cards I made. The first one is a great example of a simple card that can easily be made in multiples of two or four.
One piece of 8 1/2″ x 11″ card stock is cut in half to make a card base. Cut at either 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and folded at 4 1/4″ or cut at 4 1/4″ by 11″ and folded at 5 1/2″. While I am at it, I usually make two cards but sometimes make four of the same card so I have plenty to send. The stamped image on this card could easily be swapped out with just about any stamp you have in your current supply. I used Stampin’ Up!’s P.S. You’re the Best! The Real Red piece is cut at 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″ and the piece of Whisper White card stock that is stamped is 3 1/4″ x 4 1/2″. I used Memento Tuxedo Black ink for the typewriter and sentiments and Real Red ink for the hearts! You could easily make 4 of these cards in 30 minutes or less.
Now, for those of you who feel the above card needs a little somethin’, I have a stepped up version…
I took the design of the first card and thought about what I could do to fancy it up a bit! I wanted to use the same stamp set and basically the same colors but I did add Coastal Cabana card stock to this card. I added some color to the typewriter (my son likes the plain version better), a Stitched Shapes Circle in Real Red plus half a doily (use the other half for the 2nd card). I also put a Basic Rhinestone in the center of the yellow daisy-like flowers. A little Wink of Stella on the flowers and heart and it was done! Two of these cards could easily be made in 30 minutes or less.
So, what do you think? Are you ready to give it a try? I would love to see what you come up with using the stamps, ink and paper you have at home! Can you be ready to send a couple of cards next Monday for Mail It Monday?
I hope I have inspired you to make and send some cards! Next week I will use these same three sized pieces of card stock to create a different card! Remember, you will be able to search for these cards by using Card Ministry 101 or Mail It Monday!
Thanks for visiting!
